What do we believe in?
Clinically, we believe that prevention is more important than a cure when it comes to oral disease. In today’s modern society, too many health issues arise, and too many teeth are being lost to poor oral hygiene and care.
In our practices, we believe in active maintenance. Active Maintenance speaks of the roles that you (the patient) and us (your dental team) have to play, in order to maintain the health of not only your teeth, but of your gums, oral mucosa and jaw bone. In order to have healthy teeth and gums, we must work together as a team to “actively maintain” every aspect of our oral health.
Healthy Smile Dental is not marketed or geared to any one population or demographic. Rather, we believe that our dental practice is for everyone – young or old. We believe in treating the WHOLE family – we love to treat kids, married couples, single students and the elderly, all alike.
Our treatment philosophy takes on a holistic approach to servicing the dental needs of each individual. Not one of our patients is “sold” a particular treatment based on treatment bias and “what we think they SHOULD have”. All our patients will be given the opportunity to make an informed decision for themselves as to which treatment option satisfies their dental needs.
Is dentistry just a business? Most certainly not! As Healthy Smile Dental continues to develop and become more established, we are building bridges into our surrounding communities.
As respected members of the dental health community, we see it as our responsibility and privilege to contribute to the good health of our patients – since it is our patients and their oral health needs that are at the very core of everything Healthy Smile Dental stands for. For this reason, we always look for opportunities to be involved in supporting the health needs of our patients and will always welcome suggestions to improve our support.
The idea of Healthy Smile Dental was first conceived of by founder Director Dr Stephen Wong in late 2003. Having worked in both the private and public dental sectors, Stephen recognised that there was a need for more private dental practices in the expanding southern suburbs of Brisbane.
Having worked with Dr Julian Mok in both public and private practices, Stephen realised that, with the help of Julian, he could turn Healthy Smile Dental from a dream into a reality. After lots of hard work and effort, Healthy Smile Dental opened for the first time in the suburb of Calamvale in late 2004.
Since then, the Healthy Smile Dental team has been working hard to bring the practice to where it is today. With the success of the Calamvale practice, Stephen and Julian opened their second practice in Underwood in 2007.
