Create your perfect smile
Do you feel like holding back your smile because your teeth have stubborn stains, chips or uneven spacing? At Healthy Smile Dental, we understand how your confidence and appearance can suffer when dental imperfections take centre-stage in your smile.
Powerful aesthetic improvements are achievable with dental veneers, but that is not their full story. Addressing cosmetic concerns can also potentially improve your bite function and overall oral health. With a smooth, flawless surface, you can enjoy a perfect smile that feels comfortable and promotes better well-being. Your teeth will not only look impeccable — in many cases, the underlying condition of your oral well-being is genuinely enhanced by this treatment.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells which are custom-designed to improve the appearance of your front teeth. They can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, such as:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Worn teeth
- Deep stains resistant to whitening
- Unevenly spaced teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Failing dental fillings
- Gummy smile
Types of dental veneers
Healthy Smile Dental offers two main types of veneers to suit your individual needs and preferences:
Composite resin veneers:
These veneers are made from a tooth-coloured composite resin material that can be sculpted and applied directly to your teeth in a single visit. This makes them a convenient choice, often preferred for minor chips or cracks. Additionally, their cost may be more accessible than that of porcelain veneers. However, composite veneers may not be quite as stain-resistant or long-lasting as porcelain. They might require replacement sooner, depending on wear and tear.
Porcelain veneers:
These are the gold standard for veneers, offering exceptional durability and aesthetics. Made from ultra-thin shells of strong, translucent porcelain, they mimic the natural light-reflecting properties of tooth enamel. This creates a stunningly realistic and beautiful smile that blends seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining, chipping, and wear, making them a long-term investment in your smile.
Are dental veneers right for you?
Dental veneers can be a great option to achieve a perfect smile, but they may not be suitable for everyone. To find out if veneers are the right choice for you, schedule a consultation at Healthy Smile Dental. Our dentists will thoroughly examine your teeth, listen to your cosmetic goals, and consider your overall oral health. Highly personalised, our approach ensures you receive the most suitable and effective treatment to deliver a healthy, natural, and beautiful smile.
Treatment considerations
Tooth strength: Veneers work best on teeth with healthy enamel. If your teeth have significant decay or cracks, veneers may not be the most suitable option. In these cases, dental crowns, which cover the entire tooth, might provide a more durable solution.
Teeth grinding (Bruxism): If you grind or clench your teeth at night (bruxism), your veneers would be more susceptible to chipping or cracking. In this case, we will have a conversation about ways to protect your veneers, such as wearing a nightguard.
Gum health: Healthy gums are crucial for the long-term success of veneers. If you have gum disease, treating that first will crucial to ensure any following treatment with veneers works out well. Healthy gums help your veneers to stay securely bonded so your smile stays strong.
Composite resin veneer procedure
Consultation: During your initial consultation, we will get to know your cosmetic concerns in detail, examine your teeth, and work out if composite resin veneers are suitable for you. We will also chat with you about the desired colour, shape, and answer any questions you may have.
Teeth preparation: Minimal or no enamel needs to be removed in most cases with composite resin veneers. However, roughening the tooth surface may be necessary to enhance the bonding process.
Veneer placement: Unlike porcelain veneers, composite resin veneers are applied directly to your teeth during a single appointment. Our dentist will skillfully sculpt the composite resin material onto your tooth, layering it to achieve the desired shape and shade. A high-intensity curing light is then used to harden the resin. Once complete, the veneer will be polished to create a natural, tooth-like appearance.
Porcelain veneer procedure
Consultation: During your initial consultation, we will discuss your cosmetic concerns, examine your teeth, and determine if porcelain veneers are the right solution for you. We will also discuss the desired colour, shape, and answer any questions you may have.
Teeth preparation: For porcelain veneers, a slightly more involved enamel sculpting is required to accommodate the veneer thickness. Our dentist will ensure minimal enamel removal while creating enough space for a natural and seamless fit.
Impression taking: An accurate impression of your teeth will be taken using a high-definition digital intraoral scanner. This digital impression is sent to a dental lab where your custom porcelain veneers will be custom-designed to perfectly match your smile.
Digital Smile Design: Using advanced design software, we can create a digital model of your new smile. This allows you to see a virtual preview of the final result and make any necessary adjustments before the fabrication of your veneers begins. This ensures that the final product will meet your aesthetic expectations and function comfortably.
Temporary veneers: We will place temporary veneers made of resin to protect your teeth while your permanent porcelain veneers are being fabricated in the lab. The fabrication usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, and during this time your temporary veneers will provide you with a preview of your new smile until the full treatment is completed.
Veneer placement: Once your permanent porcelain veneers arrive, we will carefully bond them to your teeth using a strong dental adhesive. During this stage, we take a meticulous approach in which we check for colour matching, aesthetics and a comfortable and precise fit.
